Code of Conduct

Rules & Regulations

The realm runs on goodwill — these rules keep play fair, chat civil, and economies honest.

Social Behaviour & In-Game Chat

The game is intended to be fun for everyone to play. As a social game with chat as a large and integrated part, there are some rules specific to the chat channels.

  1. The game language is English, and that is the language to use in all public channels. Leaders of private channels (clans, clubs, parties) may allow a different language provided everyone in the channel knows it. Use of other languages elsewhere may result in being muted for a time.
  2. No profanity, spam, disrespectful, hateful or racist language, repeated all-caps, misleading other players, or harassment is permitted on any channel — and will be punished severely. Repeated offences are punished by karma.
  3. Channels have specified uses and should be used accordingly. Trade-related talk belongs in /c3 (Auction). Mis-use first earns a warning, then a mute.
  4. Administrators are recognised by their coloured names. Impersonation of an administrator will be severely punished. Staff will never ask for thy password.
  5. Disrespect towards, or failure to comply with, an administrator's instructions will be punished.
  6. Advertisement of other games or other Astonia 3-engine servers is not permitted. You may discuss other games or servers only in /c10 (games).
  7. Switching characters or attempting to avoid punishment by other means will result in increased penalties.
  8. Respect player privacy. Do not share personal information about other players without their consent.

Gameplay & Fair Play

  1. Exploits must not be used for personal advantage but reported. Send bug reports to [email protected] or the Discord. Exploiting bugs will be severely punished.
  2. No botting. Macros, scripts or third-party programs that play the game while thou art not at the keyboard are an exploit. The Macro Daemon checks players who are actually playing with a short, varied question; thou hast three minutes to answer. Honest players have nothing to fear from it: the first two missed challenges are warnings, the third logs thee out for a short break, and no experience or karma is lost. Suspects are moved to a challenge room in Aston and released as soon as they answer. Being caught botting by an administrator after that is a ban. Client mods from the launcher are fine — they assist thee, they do not play for thee.
  3. No cheating or hacking. Memory editors, packet tools and the like earn a permanent ban. The game has anti-cheat; alt-tabbing, keyboard walking and minimised clients are normal play and are not flagged.
  4. Hacking or scamming another player is forbidden. The penalty is an account ban; stolen goods will not be restored to the original owner.
  5. No real-money trading. Selling in-game items, gold or accounts for real money is prohibited.
  6. Accounts. The launcher lets a player keep several accounts and switch between them; that is allowed. Using additional accounts to gain an unfair advantage — dodging punishment, manipulating clan votes or spawner claims, farming the same rewards twice — is not. Account sharing is not forbidden, but the risk is thine own: if thou art scammed through sharing, no action shall be taken.
  7. Item or character transfers without an administrator are at thy own risk. Scams during such transfers will not be reversed.
  8. Do not intentionally disrupt gameplay for other players — no griefing, no excessive spawn camping, no killing new players for sport.
  9. Respect the in-game economy. Manipulation through botting, mass account creation, or similar means is prohibited.

Player versus Player

  1. PvP is part of Ugaris. Thou choosest it with /playerkiller; only players who have done the same can be attacked, and thy hate list decides whom.
  2. Repeatedly killing players at spawn points or in starter areas is harassment and is punished as such.
  3. Honour thy agreements — truces, territory, spawner deals. The realm has a long memory.

Clans

  1. Clan names, ranks and messages must meet the same standards as character names — nothing offensive or misleading.
  2. Internal clan disputes are the clan's own to settle. Staff intervene only when a rule is broken.
  3. Clan spawners are shared resources; respect ownership and the agreements between clans.

Karma & Punishments

Punishment is measured in karma. Each character begins with 0 karma; it can never increase. When punished, thy karma drops below zero and is written into thy character description. Loss of karma also means loss of experience, scaling as below. Chat offences may additionally earn a mute; severe or repeated offences a temporary or permanent ban.

Level Karma change Punishment
I -1 One fourth of a Death
II -2 One half of a Death
III -4 One full Death
IV -6 Two full Deaths
V -8 Loss of one full level
VI -12 Loss of character

Appeals & Notes

  • If thou believest a punishment unfair, appeal to the moderation team on the Discord server with thy account name and a clear account of what happened. False reports made with malicious intent are themselves punished.
  • If thou believest thy account compromised, change thy password on the dashboard and tell the staff at once.
  • The administration reserves the right to change these rules as necessary. Ignorance of the rules is no excuse; when in doubt, ask an administrator first.
