Getting Started

Steam, the Launcher and Mods

One path into the realm: install on Steam, sign in through the launcher, play. Everything else is optional.

Installing

Ugaris is distributed through Steam only: Ugaris — The Legend Recovered (App 1044010). It runs on Windows and Linux, including the Steam Deck. macOS is not part of this release.

  1. Add the game to thy Steam library and install it.
  2. Press Play. The launcher opens first.
  3. Sign in and pick a character — the launcher starts the game client for thee.

The old manual download is gone. Steam keeps the client, the launcher and the content pack up to date; there is nothing to patch by hand.

Signing in

  • Sign in with Steam the moment the launcher opens, or use thy e-mail login.
  • Already have a Ugaris account? Sign in with e-mail once and link it to Steam; from then on Steam logs thee in.
  • If a Steam sign-in created a fresh account before thou linkedst, the launcher offers to merge: thou choosest which account's details to keep, and all characters end up together.
  • Steam accounts without a real e-mail are asked to complete the profile (e-mail and password) so thou canst also log in from the website.

The same account tools live on this website under Account.

The launcher

  • Characters at a glance — real game-sprite portraits in thy own armour and colours, clan badges, search, sorting, favourites thou canst drag into order, and a details view with inventory, skills and professions.
  • Overview totals gold, items and levels across all thy characters and searches every inventory; Compare puts two side by side.
  • Multiple accounts (optional): remember several, switch with a click, see all their characters in one list.
  • Game settings that reach the game: fullscreen, gamma, lighting, minimap; borderless at desktop resolution by default; per-character overrides for resolution, monitor, fullscreen and FPS.
  • Play-time statistics with streaks and a calendar; tray quick-launch ("Play last", "Play as …", Ctrl+1–9 for favourites); keyboard shortcuts everywhere (F1 shows them).
  • Discord Rich Presence and Steam rich presence, news with a breaking-news banner, live players online, a server status window.
  • Steam Deck and controllers: full gamepad navigation with hints, a fullscreen console mode on the Deck; the launcher hides while thou playest.
  • Fifteen languages. Saved passwords live in the operating system's credential store; there is no usage telemetry and crash reports are opt-in.

Mods

Client mods are native add-ons loaded by the game. The Ugaris mod itself — which provides the Auction House, Journal, parties, companions, clan window and tabbed chat — is always installed; without it the client shows an UNSUPPORTED CLIENT banner and those systems are unavailable. On top of it thou canst install community mods from the launcher: Mods → Browse lists the official registry with featured and categorised entries; Install from URL takes any GitHub repository that follows the mod layout; Update All refreshes them in one go. The game has five free mod slots.

Mod Category What it does

Ugaris/quest-guide-mod
gameplay In-game quest walkthroughs from the community spreadsheet, with live route guidance: tile markers, a guiding arrow, and steps that advance as you reach them.
Radar & Nameplates featured

Skill Planner featured
Ugaris/skill-planner-mod

utility In-game notes, kept per character: #note jots something down, #notes opens the notebook. Plain-text files you can edit outside the game too.

Want to write thy own? Four demo mods (C, C++, Rust, Zig) show the mod API in each language, and the client release ships a mod-sdk.zip with the headers and import library.
