Companions

Bind a token and a creature walks at thy side — growing with thee, lending its gifts to thee and thy party.

Getting a companion

Companions come as tokens — "Rat token", "Wyvern token" and so on — found in the world and traded in the Auction House's own Companions category. Use a token to bind it; the creature appears beside thee and the token becomes part of thy roster (up to 24 companions). Open the Companions window from the menu bar to summon, dismiss, revive, rename or unbind them, and to watch an animated preview with the growth bar.

One companion can be out at a time. A second active slot unlocks with the Grimroot quest A Miner Lost (level 115+). Companions step aside when thou walkest into them, never block fireballs, and retreat on arena and clan-war ground.

Rarities and gifts

Every species comes in six rarities. A companion grants gifts: flat bonuses to thy stats that grow as it levels. Rarity decides how many gifts it carries and how strong they get — a max-level mythical with three gifts is the "+20 everything" dream.

Rarity Gift at level 1 Gift at level 10 Gift slots Revive fee
Common +1 +4 1 100 gold
Uncommon +1 +6 1 250 gold
Rare +2 +9 1 750 gold
Epic +2 +12 1 2,000 gold
Legendary +3 +16 2 5,000 gold
Mythical +3 +20 3 10,000 gold

Gifts can raise any of these values:

  • Perception
  • Lightning
  • Speed
  • Stealth
  • Armor — ×5 (a +20 gift is +100 armor)
  • Immunity
  • Attack
  • Parry
  • Fire
  • Magic Shield
  • Pulse
  • Bless
  • Hitpoints — ×2
  • Endurance — ×2
  • Mana — ×2
  • Light — own curve: a common shines less than a torch, a max mythical like two

A gift thy class cannot use says so honestly in the window ("no effect on your class"), so check before thou payest for a token. Gifts to a mana pool land on endurance for characters without mana.

Levelling

Companions level from 1 to 10 at thy side. They earn experience two ways: a trickle for simply being summoned (1 per minute) and a share of thy kills (1 per 500 kill experience thou earnest). Finishing level L costs 90 × L companion experience — about 4,050 in total from 1 to 10. They grow visibly as they level.

Parties

In a party, every member's companion gifts are pooled: the party enjoys the strongest gift per stat across all members' active companions (no stacking, at most five distinct stats). Utility companions at max level serve the whole party too — one Loot Goblin fetches for everyone, one Nurse tends everyone at rest.

Utility companions

Companion What it does
Loot Goblin Fetches loot, gold and keys from thy own kills (5 tiles); filter with /petloot.
Lantern Wisp Lights thy way — its Light gift grows with level; a mythical shines like two torches.
Nurse Heals thee while thou restest out of combat.
Cleric Fairy Event-only gift: keeps a real bless on thee. No token exists for her; she cannot be unbound.

/petloot all|new|value <gold>|off sets what the Loot Goblin picks up; /petloot alone shows the current filter. It only fetches from thy own kills.

Death, revival and unbinding

  • A fallen companion is revived from the window for its rarity's fee (see the table above).
  • Unbind (/petunbind, then /petunbind confirm within 30 seconds) turns thy active companion back into a tradeable token that keeps its level, experience, name and gifts. The fee is the revive fee multiplied by the companion's level.
  • /unsummon simply sends it back to the roster.
